I am thinking of buying a laser pointer and found Some of these can burn through the black plastic, pop balloons, light candles and matches, and the skin puncture. However, I do not want to hurt anyone or myself. So how does a strong laser pointer should be to injure the eyes? How long will it be in the eye? if it is accidental or two seconds causes permanent damage?

There are two limitations that you need to worry. The first, the threshold of damage the eyes, is about 1 mW. It's actually a fairly low power laser pointer, laser pointers as a go. But 1 mW, the laser can cause damage and your eyes if you look at it. However, the most visible lasers are considered relatively safe under 5 mW. This is because for lasers this power, if they have more power than necessary to hurt your eyes, damage occurs more slowly than you blink. So, your instinct will be flashing and look away before serious damage can occur. What makes these types of lasers relatively safe. Now, without doubt, if you look in such a laser and try to ignore your blink reflex, you can certainly affect your vision of such a laser. Over 5 mW, the damage occurs faster than you can blink, so these lasers are not considered safe. To put this into prospective, the sun will give you about as much power as a laser 1 mW. And, of course, you're not supposed to look in one or the other source of light. For something popping balloons, you need somewhere around 100 mW, which is more than a blink 5 mW threshold and instantly cause permanent damage to your vision. For a laser hurts when you shine it on your skin, you need about 500 mW, which is a very powerful laser and can light up a room very easily. All this depends on many factors such as the diameter of the beam, if there is any kind of development, and to some extent, the wavelength of the laser. For example, ultraviolet radiation 1 mW infrared laser is considered dangerous because you do not blink reflex of these invisible wavelengths. But for visible lasers, The figures I gave you are appropriate for the type of beam you get laser pointers. And in any case (unless directed by a doctor) If you look across the laser beam, and you should always avoid eye contact. Whats a Great long distance laser range finder?

I’m looking for a high performance, reasonably priced laser range finder for hunting. Looking it to accuarely read distances up to 800-1000 meters

There is an awesome new scope out by bushnell that has a built in laser range finder. You pinpoint your target.. lock on.. read the yardage.. and set the dial on top to that number. It comes with 7 or 8 different dials for different calibers. I believe it’s good for 800 yards.. and goes from 4-12 power with a 40mm front lens. It was in the latest cabelas shooting catalog. To subscribe to the catalog.. go to cabelas.com. The price is 800.. which is high for a rangefinder.. but not too bad considering you get a really nice mill dot scope out of the deal. If you just want an 800 yard rangefinder.. bushnell has that too for about 350 now.. depending on where you purchase. You’ll get a much better deal on ebay than a retail outlet. I prarie dog hunt in SD and take shots up to 700 yards or so, and bushnell has best the best bang for the buck i’ve found. You can pay 1000 plus for optics that will draw in the most light possible at dusk and dawn.. but I’d rather save the 75% for the 15 minutes of the day it actually matters. Plus I’ve experience pretty good light quality with bushnell products.. especially the 50mm scope.
with the bushnell rangefinder.. i’ve noticed that it can vary about 1 or 2 yards sometimes above the 100 yard mark. It’s not enough to matter.. and other brands can do the same. This is just an fyi.. even though a product may say accurate to within a couple feet.. you’ll notice slight changes from one reading to the next. No big deal though.
